  • 18 holes, par 71, 6322 yards. Links.

Originally known to locals when it first opened in 1906 as Porthmadog and Borth y Gest Golf Club, this course is an excellent example of what golf should be like. Not many courses in the world, let alone the UK, can boast such stunning views from an idyllically located peninsula. Although it is identifiably a links course, the front nine is known to most as a regular parkland, whilst also being the nine that’s most generous on the scorecard.

The parkland like front nine is located on relatively flat terrain, away from the coast, with scorable par fives, tricky par fours and some breath-taking par threes. But it is the back nine when Porthmadog really comes into its own - located adjacent to the coast with panoramic scenery that will make you never want to leave, this is where Porthmadog transforms into true links golf.

The most memorable hole is the par four, 14th named the Himalayas. This hole demands a brave drive over a gigantic natural bunker, leaving you with not much fairway to aim at. It’s not hard to see why this is one of Wales’ most treasured courses – perfect for a golf vacation to the UK and a must have on your bucket list.
