More about the Ryder Cup

Every 2 years, the golfing world ignites itself with an eclectic display of drama, sportsmanship and camaraderie from 24 of the world’s best golfers. When the Ryder Cup was formally introduced in 1927, the two competing teams were originally Great Britain and the United States, with the USA players dominating the competition up until 1983, losing just three matches since its beginning. The last three decades, however, have shown a level playing field between the two teams. From the ‘Miracle of Medinah’ in 2012, to the United States' sensational display at Hazeltine in 2016, the Ryder Cup simply always delivers!

Can Steve Stricker help bring home the Cup for the first back-to-back home win since 1983? Or will Europe successfully defend their title from 2018 at Le Golf National? Whatever the odds, the stage is set for a truly incredible experience at Whistling Straits.

Ryder Cup Facts

  • Team Europe have won 4 out of the last 5 Ryder Cups
  • Arnold Palmer and Gardner Dickinson are the most successful Ryder Cup pairing in history, with a record of 5-0-0
  • In 2018, Mickelson made a record 12th straight appearance

Whistling Straits: An authentic links test

Bestowed a beautiful location, on the edge of Lake Michigan, Whistling Straits is one of America’s greatest championship courses. Crafted from an uninspiring strip of a disused airfield, Pete Dye has done a remarkable job transforming the Wisconsin venue into an authentic links test. Such is the standard of the Straits Course that Whistling Straits has already played host to three US PGA Championships, as well as the US Senior Open in 2007, with the world's best players universally agreeing that the layout is one of the finest on the planet.

With a host of dramatic holes set against Lake Michigan, the course is guaranteed to serve up plenty of drama come the 2020 Ryder Cup. You don’t want to miss it…

Milwaukee: America's Dairyland

Located in Wisconsin in a shallow valley, on Lake Michigan’s western shore lies a small but beautiful city that continues to be overlooked despite its stunning scenery, charming characteristics and its diversity. Milwaukee is situated just an hour south of Whistling Straits and 90 miles north of Chicago.

Known for being the beer capital of the United States, the city of Milwaukee has had a tradition of beer drinking and making for over 175 years. When German immigrants settled in the area around the mid-1800s, they brought with them their skills and knowledge of producing high-quality beers. Overtime a collective of well-known brewers have emerged including the likes of Miller, Pabst and Schlitz. Equally, the city prides itself on its dairy industry, with the state of Wisconsin producing 30% of the country's entire cheese production!

Whistling Straits Facts

  • Nearly half the course borders Lake Michigan
  • There are more than 1,000 bunkers
  • 3-time host of the PGA Championship
  • Legendary Pete Dye Design
  • The course is 7,790 yards
