Though construction began on Club Campestre San Jose in 2005, this Nicklaus design did not open for play until June of 2007. Spread across the rolling hills of the Sierra del la Laguna Mountains, the Paspalum grass fairways and greens are coupled with breathtaking ocean panoramas and mountainous landscapes to offer every visitor their own slice of bliss.

Elevation changes, strategic bunkering, and undulating greens are the calling cards at Club Campestre San Jose, defending the immaculately kept putting surfaces from aerial assault. Deep and oddly shaped bunkers surround nearly every green, and the subtle breaks and tricky pin positions do not guarantee a birdie from even the most purely struck approach. Massive waste areas, water hazards, and arroyos snake across the fairways, calling for careful course management and proper club selection.

Compared to the back nine, the outward half is sometimes thought of as rather flat in nature; as you make the turn to come in, however, Club Campestre ascends to higher ground, circulating players around a rolling desert plateau high above the sea.

The 7th, widely regarded as the signature hole, is a risk-reward double dogleg that plays into a well-bunkered peninsula green. Both precision and power are required off the tee for any hope of getting home in two, though the sensible play is often to play it as a three shot hole. On the par-5 13th, a trio of cross bunkers guards the landing area off the tee, forcing the player to make an impactful decision before the hole even starts: lay up short, or carry the ball some 240 yards to clear the hazards.
