Ring of Kerry Golf Course

  • It might not have the history of some of the great courses of the south-west of Ireland, but with such a spectacular waterside setting on Kenmare Bay, Ring of Kerry Golf & Country Club represents just about as much fun as you can have on a golf course.

Designed by legendary Irish architect Eddie Hackett – the man who gifted the world such classics as Ballyliffin, Carne and Waterville – this is a stunning course that offers something a little different to the many links courses in this region. A mixture of moorland and parkland – but with some linksy qualities – Kerry is a real thinkers course, with some challenging par-5s (including two back-to-back on the front nine) and a great collection of one-shotters.

But it’s the views for which this course is famed. Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Kerry Mountains, the vistas are truly spectacular. Perhaps the star of the show is the 13th, which was voted as the second best in all golf by one of the UK’s leading golf magazines. Measuring more than 230 yards from the tips, the hole is played from an elevated tee down to a massively sloping green protected by water. As par-3s go, it’s one of the world’s best.

In an area packed full of bucket-list golf, don’t forget to include ‘The Ring’ in your golf itinerary – you won’t be disappointed.
