Royal Cinque Ports, often referred to as Deal Golf Club due to its location, completes the trio of world famous links golf courses on this stretch of Kent coast. Host to The Open Championship in 1909 and 1920, and was scheduled to be in 1938 and 1949, however abnormally high tides inundated the course leading to immediate relocation of the tournament, and Royal Cinque Ports being struck off The Open rota as a consequence! Quite coincidentally Henry Cotton was defending champion on both occasions.

Like Princes Golf Club down the road, Royal Cinque Ports now plays regular host to Open Qualifying when The Open is at Royal St Georges. It has also hosted many Amateur Championships and has been home to the annual Halford Hewitt competition since 1925, where alumni from private schools across the UK do battle on this famous links.
