With its gloriously natural setting on the south side of the picturesque Dingle Bay, Dooks is an absolutely enchanting place to play golf in Ireland. It might not be as well-known as the likes of Tralee or Waterville, but in terms of playing experience and quality of design, its right up there with the best.

The course began life as a nine-holer in 1889 and was only extended to 18 holes in 1970, but it wasn’t until 2006 that the Dooks we know and love emerged from the sand dunes. A bold four-year project saw master architect Martin Hawtree redesign no less than 16 holes… and the results of this transformation are truly spectacular, with plenty of challenges from the tees, fast-running fairways and some stunning green complexes to enjoy.

The course is completely in harmony with its surroundings, and is as famed for its nature as its high class golf. With lots of native wildlife, from birds and flowers to the rare Natterjack toad that even features on the club crest, Dooks is a marvel that blends effortlessly into the landscape. The course was described by the late Dai Davies of the Guardian as being the ‘loveliest little golf club in the world’ – pay this corner of Co.Kerry a visit on your next golf vacation and you’ll surely agree.
